Colorado Shows Its Fall Colors

Fall is here and there are plenty of places near Boulder to see the changing of the leaves.

Though the weather remains warm, the leaves have already started their annual evolution from green to the colors of fall. Colorado boats trees ranging from the famously colorful aspens to maple trees that change with the passage of the seasons. One does not have to go far to take in the beauty that this state has to offer.
As Boulderites, we have a better opportunity than most to see the fall leaves close up. Simply walking through CU’s campus provides a breathtaking view. But for a true leaf-changing experience, a short drive up Boulder Canyon towards Nederland provides fall color seekers with plenty of spots to stop.
Students as well as Boulder residents are expected to take advantage of these nearby spots. CU senior Garrett Graff said, “It’s so beautiful up here, that’s just why I love Colorado. It’s one of the reasons I came to CU. Just seeing all the all aspens turn the different colors, it’s really sweet.”
For a full day of fall foliage viewing, try out any of these spots:
• Rocky Mountain National Park has many trails, including Fern and Cub Lakes.
• Brainard Lake, just northwest of Ward, has trails such as the Audubon Trail and Sourdough Trail.
• Boblink trail, east of Boulder, can be accessed from Baseline and Cherryvale roads.
• Even local hiking spots, such as Chautaqua Park and the NCAR trailhead, have already started changing colors.
