CU Book Store Thefts Increase

By NewsTeam Boulde... - Posted on 29 September 2009

Thefts have been on the rise this semester at the CU-Boulder Book Store. During the first week of school, at least one person was caught stealing from the CU Book Store every day, according to police records.

Since then, the pace has slowed down but the total number of bookstore thefts is up significantly from last year.

So far this fall there have been 21 thefts from the bookstore according to Chuck Smith, the assistant director for operations at the CU Book Store. Last year, there were only nine known thefts. Smith said they suspect the Book Store catches about half of the total amount of shoplifters.

The Book Store has more than 60 high-definition cameras among the store, and a well trained staff to watch for theft. For more information on the Book Store thefts check out http://www.dailycamera.com/cu-news/ci_13433663.
