Dentists offer "Cash 4 Candy"
Do something sweet for your wallet — and your dental health — at this year's Cash 4 Candy buyback event.
Trade your leftover halloween candy in for cash. The Boulder Dental Group will be paying $1.00 per pound for leftover halloween candy at this year’s Cash 4 Candy event. Bring extra candy to the Boulder Dental Group at 29th St. and Valmont Rd. between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. this Friday.
Kids will also receive goody bags filled with toys, light-up toothbrushes and coupons to local restaurants and movie theaters.
All donated candy will be shipped to our troops overseas. Dr. Marc Alber, DDS, of the Boulder Dental Group said, “There’s an organization out in California called Operation Gratitude. They send care packages to the troops every year. They needed donations — candy donations — to include with these care packages.” The school that donates the most candy will receive a $1,000 prize.
Cash 4 Candy is tailored to younger children, but CU students can benefit from the event as well. The second most common disease in the U.S. is tooth decay. Dentists collectively fill 500,000 cavities each day and according to a recent study by the McCarl Dental Group, it’s not uncommon to see a dramatic increase in cavities and tooth decay during college years. Diets high in sugar, frequent alcohol consumption and lax dental hygiene regimens are to blame.
According to the Academy of General Dentistry, kissing may also help reduce cavities and improve overall dental health. Dr. Alber recommends more conventional methods, “It’s the typical stuff you know you floss everyday and brush twice a day.”
Even if you can’t cash in on the sweet deals at this years Cash 4 Candy buyback event, do yourself a favor; floss everyday. Dr. Alber says its the number one thing you can do to maintain a healthy and beautiful smile throughout your college years and beyond.
