La'au's Taco Shop fights to extend its hours
The University Hill is packed with students, especially once the weekend rolls around. La’au’s Taco Shop located on the corner of Broadway and University wants to extend their hours of operation from 9 p.m. to 2:30 am to serve to the late night crowd.
La’au’s Taco Shop opened just over a year ago, and the store manager wants to take advantage of their prime location.
General Manager Bryce Woods says, “ The hourly extension is really about getting food in drunk people’s bellies before they go home”.
But Boulder City Council is thoroughly looking over the request to extend their hours. The community is concerned about having another alcohol serving restaurant open until the early hours of the morning. The city council is calling this a public safety issue because the taco shop is considered to be in a high crime rate area.
The request has made some ripples throughout the council and the council has requested Boulder Police department to conduct a study on alcohol related crime surrounding the restaurant.
The results of the police investigation and the decision on La’au’s extended hours request will be held at a public forum on March 7th.
