Ski season arrives
A-Basin expects the lifts to be full. “Our expectation for the ski season is to have the best we have on record, as you can see it’s already snowing and it’s early October,” said Leigh Hierholzer, communications director for the ski area.
The bad economy does not seem to keep Coloradans from their favorite winter pastime. “Our season pass sales are up from last year and the year before. No matter how the economy is or how the snow is, people still want to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Especially here in Colorado. It’s in their blood,” Hierholzer said.
For avid skiers, Colorado is the only place to be. “There is a lot of terrain to explore and the snow is good, not like the East Coast where it’s icy and the West Coast where it’s slushy,” Martin said. The ski areas did react to the economic downfall by offering discount rates, which might be an explanation for higher sales numbers.
