Student creates new iPhone app., gives RTD bus schedule

Bus riders will soon know exactly when Boulder buses will arrive at their stop with a new iPhone application developed by sophomore Zach Shapiro.

What started as a class project for sophomore Mark Shaprio during an introduction to computer science class has become much more.

The 19-year-old news editorial major created an iPhone application for a class project that details RTD bus schedules. The iPhone application was made as a service to CU students.

“I’ve always heard the hardest part of creativity is translate what is in your head to a piece of paper or a computer screen or whatever your medium is, and that for me is the most rewarding part," said Shaprio.

He also said, “Nobody likes to get up in the morning, and if you can get an extra five minutes to eat breakfast or watch sportscenter or whatever you want to do, you come to appreciate those five minutes, and even if it is something small like bus schedules on your phone, I hope that that can provide people a couple of extra minutes to get themselves set in the morning and awake because I know it is not easy for me.”

The current RTD application only includes:
• BX (Boulder to Denver)
• AB (Boulder to Airport)

Additional routes are expected to be added before Halloween. If your RTD bus is not on the iPhone application, you can email Zack through iTunes and he will do his best to add your bus's schedule to the application.
