Swine flu vaccinations

Swine flu vaccinations are expected to arrive in Boulder this week... but are you eligible to receive one?

This Thursday, 29,000 swine flu vaccinations will arrive in Boulder. But this isn't going to immediately put a stop to the spread of the illness.

The first release of the vaccine is only meant to treat healthcare professionals, young children and women who are pregnant. So when can the rest of us expect the shot? Not until all of the high risk candidates are taken care of.

But once that happens are CU students going to be waiting in line to get the shot? CU student Nick Krona says no. He doesn't think that swine flu is a big deal and says that if you're healthy, it shouldn't even be a worry.

But sophomore Trevar Petersen disagrees. He says that if it will prevent him from getting the flu and consequently missing class, he is all for it.

In the meantime, Wardenberg Health Center is recommending that the whole campus take some simple measures to try to prevent the spread of the flu.

1. Cover coughs and sneezes with arm
2. Wash your hands with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds or more
3. Get 7-9 hours of sleep every night
4. Avoid touching eyes and nose
5. Avoid sharing cups, make-up, water bottles etc. with others

Wardenburg Health Center do say that if you come down with H1N1 to make sure to wear a mask to avoid infecting your family and friends.
