Working out in the winter

Attempting to keep the extra holiday weight off is hard enough, but factor that in with the weather and you’ve got a problem.

The weather can hinder most people’s workout outside but can also affect those who walk to the gym.

The CU Rec Center staff knows this pattern all to well. Melissa Harry explains, “usually I swipe early in the morning and not that many people come when it’s cold out”.

During the winter many people gain weight because your body wants to store the fat, so loosing or even maintaining your weight can be an uphill battle.

Senior Hollyne Gillach, who describes herself as moderately active, says, ““with school going on and having to walk in the snow just to class, it's enough for me, so to have to walk in the snow to they gym to work out makes it a lot less motivating”.

Medical experts say that even though the weather might not allow you to workout outside you should still try to hit the gym at least three to five days a week.
