CU Football Spring Wrap-up and Off Season Outlook
It's was a big week for Colorado football with the annual spring game last Saturday. Tyler Hansen was named the 2011-2012 starting quarterback, and news that some key players wont be on the team for the 2011-2012 season. New Head Coach Jon Embree has been shaking things up in Boulder and now he and the rest of the CU staff are hitting the recruiting trail aiming to let top recruits and their parents know CU football is back.
CU Quarterback coach, Rip Scherer, will be taking ten flights over the course of the next two weeks while he meets with recruits across the country. Offensive Coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, will be traveling to seven states over the next month meeting with prospective buffs. And thats only two of CU's coaches. Thats the good news for Buff fans.
Now for the bad. CU's 2010 sack leader, defensive end Forrest West, will not be returning to the team for the 2011-2012 season. Also not returning is receiver Will Jefferson. Jefferson was the teams fifth leading receiver last season and both players will leave a void that new recruits and current players will have to fill.
As a new chapter of Buffs football begins, Embree has put all current players on notice: incoming freshman will have a legitimate chance to compete for starting jobs. Going into the summer off season, such a statement should give fans a lot to look forward to come fall.
