Inside linebacker as player and parent

Being an athlete at CU is a big time commitment, but so is being a parent. Marcus Burton and Krislen Morgado make time for both.

You may know Marcus Burton as the inside linebacker for the Colorado Buffaloes, but what you may not know is after the game is over and the post game talk from the coach has ended, Marcus goes home to his wife Krislen and his two boys, Tysen (age 2) and Noah (2 weeks).
Marcus and Krislen lead busy lives. Everyday begins at 6 a.m. Tysen is usually the first out of bed. WIthin the hour, Krislen and Marcus get the boys
dressed, fed and ready for the day. Then, they get themselves ready and head for
the door. Marcus heads to school and practice, while Tysen goes to daycare. Krislen is currently on maternity leave and takes care of Noah during the day, but she
would otherwise head to work as a full time teacher at Deveraux Cleo Wallace. When asked about her schedule, Krislen said that to other people it may seem
crazy, but to her it is just day to day life. “It’s been crazy, just crazy life, but I really wouldn’t have it any different. We are both doing what we love to do. I mean we are just too blessed in so many different areas to say, ugh I can’t do this."
Krislen and Marcus met through CU Athletics. Krislen played volleyball while at CU in 2007, Tysen was born and in 2008 Krislen and Marcus were married. On Sept. 6, during the CU vs. CSU home opener, their newest son Noah was born. Marcus tells us that both he and Krislen learned quickly that their lives can be as unpredictable as the games they play. “Life is gonna ask some unexpected things. You know no one thinks oh I am going to go to college and have two kids and get married, but I mean, its life. We are enjoying the process, we are enjoying this moment," said Marcus.
Both parents would agree that at time life can take some surprising turns, but through their love of each other, and the support from the people around them, they are able to do it all.
