Most memorable Super Bowl Ads

According to Nielsen ratings, a record breaking 111 million viewers tuned in to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday night. And days after the Super Bowl, the only thing CU students seem to be talking about are which commercials were the funniest and most memorable.

Every year, Nielsen offers statistics that show the most-viewed commercials during the Super Bowl. These statistics are useful for advertisers, since their goal is to see which one's resonate the most with the viewers.

According to Nielsen, Volkswagen's mini Darth Vadar ranks as the favorite commercial during the game, which has also received 26 million views on YouTube.

CU students were interviewed about what commercials they liked the most from the Super Bowl.

“I liked the one, it was a car commercial, and it was a mini Darth Vadar,”
said CU student Alejandra Taylor.

Another CU student, Matt Gruber also commented on this ad, and said, “There
was one about Star Wars, about the little kid that was trying to use his powers to
do things.”

Also according to Nielsen, this year's Doritos ad with a pug dog knocking down the door was the most recalled ad of the game.

“The Doritos one was pretty good, but I also like the E*trade baby. He’s always
really funny. That was actually my favorite one,” said CU student Adam Sitzman.

Ethan Anderson, another CU student, said, “The Dorito one, where he sprinkles his father’s ashes, and he come’s back to life. That was amazing."

Some ads will do just about anything to generate buzz and get people talking.
Peta’s “Veggie Lovers” ad was banned two years in a row, seen as two racy by
the network.

Controversy also surrounds Groupon’s Tibet spot, which most viewed as
insensitive and offensive.

Increasing presence of social media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube means
there is more data than ever before showing how consumers respond to the ads.
If this will translate to higher sales for the brands is yet to be determined.
