Stept ski holds premiere

A group of CU students are a 'Stept' ahead of their peers, owning their own production company before they've even graduated.

Their film 'How We Livin' embodies what it's like to be an athlete, student and entrepreneur all in one.

Balancing academics with a social life is already difficult enough for most students. Add owning a company to the list and you have one busy schedule.

For brothers Nick and Alex Martini, starting their own ski movie production company, Stept Productions, began when they were only teenagers. Over time, their movies have evolved from amateur to professional productions.

"Stept originally started as a hobby but now it's gotten to a point where it's become a lot more than that. We were growing up skiing and just started filming each other like a lot of kids do," says Nick Martini, Stept owner and skier.

The Stept owners, skiers and production team have been fortunate to have the guidance of professional production companies, ultimately furthering them in the skiing industry.

"There are big ski movie companies I grew up watching that we're now actually pretty good friends with like Poor Boyz Productions and Level 1 Productions. They're who we're sort of striving to be like," says Martini.

Stept is premiering their 7th movie on the CU campus tonight. The showing will be in Chem 140. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are only $5. Popular, local DJ's Hathbanger and JDubssss will be spinning music live at the show.

"We feel like it's going to be really fun. It's more like a party than a formal movie premiere," says Martini.

The Stept team says the 'How We Livin' production is a lot different from those of previous years.

"We decided that we wanted to sort of take it back to the old school style ski movies where it was just rider parts and just really raw shot after shot. We just packed it full of really good skiing," said Cam Riley, Stept filmer, editor and skier.
